Flats are time-honored as the most basic and versatile piece of a cloth diaper collection. They are generally folded to achieve something like the effect of a prefold. One flat can grow with your baby from birth to toddlerhood, although it may not fit well at either end of that spectrum. These can be used as burp cloths, light blankets, rags, and even a giant wipe in a pinch. Their usefulness will outlast your child's, and likely children's, diaper years.
If you're afraid of poking baby, new fasteners have made it unnecessary to use super sharp pins, (Snappi®). The fasteners for them have been improved so you don't have to use the dreaded pins.
You must use a diaper cover over this to keep it waterproof.
